Who we are
The Ethnic Minority Centre (EMC) is an umbrella organisation for all the Black and Minority Ethnic Communities in Merton.
The EMC was established in 1990 to meet the growing needs for a base for BME Communities in the London Borough of Merton.
What personal data we collect and why we collect it
All data are only accessed by staff. It will not be accessed except in response to a query about our actions in the case. No decisions will be made about you based on this data and you will not suffer any detriment or harm by having it stored on our secure systems. At the end of the six years all your data will be archived and stored within the archive and not the live database. It will only be accessed in the event of a legal claim or query. We keep an overall summary of the number of people who contact us, and the types of issues people contact us about.
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
The following cookies are used and have no impact on your user experience, and store no personal information. They contain some information about your general geographic location. These cookies are automatically added by the software that runs this website, but we do not use them in any way.

Your data (e.g. emails) are only shared with BAME communities, Statutory and Voluntary Groups.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained for up to 6 years. This is so we can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
What rights you have over your data
If you have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
